Why have Reformed Christians historically rejected images of Jesus Christ? Is this simply an inherited tradition, or does it rest on biblical and theological convictions?

For You Saw No Form traces the controversy over images of Christ from the early church and the Byzantine iconoclast controversy through the Protestant Reformation. It examines the arguments of continental and English Reformers and the development of the Reformed confessional position. Finally, it considers the biblical foundations of this conviction, including the second commandment, the incarnation of Christ, the distinction between his divine and human natures, and the sufficiency of Scripture.

This book introduces readers to the historical development and theological reasoning behind the Reformed rejection of images of Jesus, showing how this position arises from a particular understanding of Scripture and the person of Christ.
